Heaven Thrown From Hell
Wicked things come to clutch at her soul and at the soul of her child inside of her. Their claws swiping at empty air all around her, but always just a sickening breath's span away. She fell through the cracks of reality to burst into the world of mortals, chained by child to this plane of existence. To live among the men and women who pray to her kind.
With an explosion of sand and flames she flies high above the earth. She turns slowly for a moment, hanging in the clouds, safe, high above the world she was now bound to. Then the binds pull taunt and she is jerked from her heavenly perch back down towards the ground. She plummeted back down to earth. A fall that would kill a mortal being, she looks up at the pale blue sky above her. If only it was night and her father would see her falling. He would swoop down on his silvery chariot, with the six silent wraiths pulling it along, and he would carry her safely down to earth.
The earth rushed up to meet her and she whispered a prayer to the spirits. As a god the spirits were at her beck and call. Now she was only flesh but the air began to thicken around her, crackling with energy, her decent towards the ground was slowed. The earth turned soft to cushion the impact and took her gently like a mother taking a child into her arms. The elements sighed a fare well to her. A goodbye of fire, earth, water, and air. The wind spoke for them all as they kissed at her cheeks, leaving her very alone. She wept, alone in the desert.
Not alone. She felt the pulse of a soul in her veins it reached out to her for comfort. She had to be strong for her child. She reached inward and caressed the soul. She was strong for her the sleeping soul and the pulse of life became comforted by his mother's touch. The pleasant vibrations from withing returned comfort to her.
Heaven became aware of the situation she was in. A pregnant woman, stranded in the middle of the desert. No food, water, or even a clue to what direction she should be walking in. Sand stretched out in all directions. She took in a deep breath and let it out. Before the breath had completely passed her lips she had chosen a direction and started walking. The sand which used to part before her feet, like worshipers bowing down, now hindered her steps. The sun which once walked with her in the garden of the moon god and had picked flowers from the frozen fields of Lirriun, now the sun bear down on her shoulders with all his heat. Even the sun had turned his back on her now.
Heaven stopped and looked at Sun far in the sky above her. It had been night when she had gone to face the jeweled demon, her former lover. In the flames and darkness of his world time had passed differently while she was down there. In what way? She heard a noise behind her and spun to face her new foe. Instinctively she reached for her magical sword only to find her scabbard bare. Her hand swept three times through the space where it would normally slap against leather bound around mystic steel.
It was only a man on horseback staring at her torn and beaten state.
"Are you ok?"
She tried to respond but but found her throat sore and choked on dust. Her hand reached up to touch her throat when no words would come out. The man looked down at her with a worried expression on his face and offered down a hand.
"If you can understand me" he said with his arm stretched out to her. "I can give you a ride out of this place."
She nodded her head, smiling gratefully and took his hand. He pulled her onto the back of his horse and they began to trot out of the desert without another word passing between them. They would speak a few months later, meeting unexpectedly, another tale for another time.
