Silent Life

He sits and watches the nothing
Not knowing about something
Clock ticks slowly on the wall
Telephone long vacant of a call

Smiling girl with head in clouds
Reporting the rain in those clouds
Smiling man right back after these
Wonder products are the bees knees

Peanut butter on day old white bread
Reruns of tv edit of Dawn of the Dead
Fruit Loops make everything terrible
He lives behind the walls of rubble

Forgotten people behind garbage
Shy and hidden without the courage
They blush and blunder below us
Our lack of caring is the only plus

Them leaving doesn't hurt anyone
We forget what's not under the sun
Freeze in front of black and white tvs
Color gone with the door that frees

He opens the doors and steps outside
Down the street not bothering to hide
To the woman with the open smile
She would never even bother to dial

He hurries because he is already late
Running off sidewalk through the gate
Knowing he had one reason to live
One devine moment was his gifr to give

Steps in front of the burning gunshot
Sparking the life that once did rot
His eyes go hollow like his tv set
Sitting blank no one to repair it

Looking into those blank screens
Connecting us are such thick strings
She wonders who would die for her
Holding him as his life begins to pour

Is this man from nowhere? she asks
What is his name? His life? she asks
Do these people make such a sacrafice
To save that one person at any price
